Currency and foreign exchange
Indonesian currency and how to exchange foreign currency.
The Indonesia Rupiah is also called IDR. Information of daily exchange rate can be found in newspapers or from the net. Some Indonesia banks provide this on their websites. There are 8 kinds of notes 100、500、1,000、5,000、10,000、20,000、50,000、10,000Rp and 4 kinds of coins 50、100、200、500, 1000Rp. It will be convenient to carry some 1000 and 10,000 notes since taxies and shops may not carry change for 100,000Rp notes.
Some tourists exchange money and find out later that it is only 1/10 of the actual amount they should have received. Some moneychangers play tricks and pull out some of the notes while pretending to count. Always insist on a receipt and personally count it before leaving the counter. Rates change every day. Please refer to the exchange rates in the “Travel Information” page “Currency rates” of this application.
